The Portux Panel-PC builds on the technology in taskit's Portux920T series. The extended interfaces - with 10/100 Mbit Ethernet, USB 2.0 and an SD/MMC card slot - support a variety of potential applications. The computer can be integrated into a network and external devices can be connected, i.e., for data exchange. The powerful 180 MHz ARM-920T core processor delivers particularly good performance and uses very little power.
The Panel-PC is ready-to-use; the Linux open-source operating system is pre-installed. Linux is continually growing and has broad software support. Because there are no licence fees, it is also a cost-effective solution.
The Portux Panel-PC is traditionally used for controlling manufacturing facilities, supply plants or medical devices. Its compact, robust construction supports a wide variety of applications: as control terminal, communications or display unit, or as a diagnostic system.
The Portux Panel-PC is available either with a color transmissive 5.7" TFT display or with a 5.7" LCD display. Its display makes it ideal as a measurement device, for example as an industrial scale or multimeter. For situations requiring a simple and intuitive interface, the Panel-PC can also be delivered with an optional touch screen.
Since extreme operating environments preclude the use of conventional PC technology, the Portux Panel-PC is offered in a very robust industrial housing. When it is to be integrated into a custom environment, the PC is also available without a housing. Because of its wide operating voltage range, the Panel-PC can often be supplied by an existing power source in machines or switchboxes.

Powerful ARM architecture
The modern ARM architecture is currently the most important nonproprietary processor architecture. ARM-based CPUs boast excellent performance with minimal power consumption, making them ideal for embedded computing. Built on the Atmel® AT91RM9200 controller, taskit developed a board capable of meeting demanding requirements. It boasts a high-performance 180 MHz ARM 920T core as well as integrated peripherals such as USB 2.0 and Ethernet.
The Portux Panel-PC is exceptionally versatile for communication with external devices. A multitude of different interfaces enable connecting a wide range of peripheral devices and simplifies the development and integration of custom hardware.
Robust aluminum housing
The Portux Panel-PC comes in a very robust aluminum housing. For installation in a custom housing or other special implementations, it is also available without the housing. You can freely configure the keyboard layout for the matrix keyboard, which is integrated in the front of the unit. A transmissive TFT display is also integrated into the front panel. A touch screen is optional.
The free operating system Linux and the function-rich U-Boot boot software are preinstalled, so you can put the Portux Panel-PC to work right out of the box. Linux is a well-documented operating system. You can find sample solutions to practically every problem in the Internet, so the Portux Panel-PC can be used even by developers who have never worked with Linux before.
taskit regulary updates the Portux Panel-PC with new Linux releases that have been thoroughly tested. The standard Linux kernel version 2.6.x with AT91 patches is pre-installed on the Portux Panel-PC, providing USB drivers for webcams, printers, bulk storage, USB-serial, USB-bluetooth or USB-Ethernet.
Many Linux standard applications can be run on the Portux Panel-PC. The basic distribution contains important network services and can be used without major configuration effort. As a developer, you can focus on your own application.
The Journalling Flash File System 2 ensures data security. Drivers for PS/2 keyboard, matrix keyboard and touch screen are also preinstalled.
Develop in C++ or Java
The GNU tools for developing on ARM-based computers are included on the software CD. The precompiled toolchain and GNU debugger (GDB) for linux-based host systems enables cross-compiling to x86 based systems. This allows you to compile the example programs or your own application directly and immediately, without major effort.
To simplify development of graphic applications, the free Nano-X Window System is included, complete with source code and example programs.
The GDB facilitates remote debugging. The GBD itself runs on the development computer and can also be used conventionally with graphical GUIs.
JamVM and GNU Classpath provide you with a Java interpreter and a class library. You can develop Java applications with any popular Java compiler (e.g. from Sun TM).
Extension cards can provide additional functionality beyond that of the basis board. The 96-pin Portux Extension Bus (PXB) gives you direct access to the AT91RM9200 peripherals. This simplifys the development of custom application-specific extension cards. Of course, taskit can also produce custom-built cards to meet your requirements, and will support you from prototyping through mass production.
The starter kit gives you everything you need to put the Portux Panel-PC to immediate use. Just connect the host PC using the included null modem cable, launch a terminal program and the Linux prompt appears as soon as you turn your Portux on.
